hear. >> reporter: he just checked into a row be a hospital where it could be months before the family determines how much damage was done. it was on may 29th when he was on a date getting heckled by two men behind him. ortiz got up to confront them and was punched. he isn't weeks under doctor's care and shock trauma. ortiz is learning to walk and talk all over again. the family said they are beginning to see what they call an electric personality. >> it's coming back a little bit. he's starting to understand thing last little bit more, starting to ask some more questions, starting to recognize some people more but then in the next breath he could say something totally off the wall that makes no sense. >> reporter: it will take months for him to recover.

coming up at 6, the family still wants answers as to exactly what happened that night. we'll have that part of the story and how you can help coming up in about an hour. the trial of a baltimore county plaintiff accused of killing a 17-year-old boy outside his randallstown home is taking place. he chased brown and was hiding in bushes. officials said brown ended up dead. prosecutors said he was asphyxiated. when they arrived, la board was trying to row sus state brown. la booed is charged with vol and in-- manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter. a man was rushed to the hospital with cuts but he passed

away. we did reach the 100 mark for the murder rate four weeks earlier than last year. 45 people were shot, seven killed between friday and sunday and police were involved in three of the shootings. up until this weekend the city has seen a decline in overall homicides and shootings. >> how do you know that tractor-trailer in front of you is operating with good breaks -- brakes or the driver has been on the road too long? you don't. a new system will be at weigh stations that will allow them to choose. roosevelt leftwich joins us with more. >> reporter: they're able to bypass the weigh station. the system will detect the registered vehicles.

across the aisle from the unruly passenger and described how the crew jumped into action. >> they tried to remove the backpack from the guy. they took him to the very back of the plane. then they started insulating him with other people's bags and seat cushions. >> reporter: no bag was found and the man was taken into custody. that same day a passenger on egypt airline found a threatening note in the bathroom saying "i'll set the plan on fire." the plane was diverted to scotland. >> my concern is we're seeing a large trend. >> reporter: crime experts say passengers behaving pad by is on the rise. this passenger was duct taped to his seat on a float from iceland to new york
